The school has actively promoted educational reform and subject construction for years, enhancing the quality of graduates. The teaching quality of both general courses and compulsory courses on Ideology and Politics ranks high among Hunan universities at the same level and has positive social effect. The academic team of the courses has been awarded as the provincial key construction team. Meanwhile, the school has achieved remarkable results in curricula construction, two courses Outline of Modern and Contemporary History of China and Survey of Mao Zedong Philosophy and Socialist Theories with Chinese Characteristics being honored with the award of Excellent Courses in Hunan Province. In recent years, two second prizes and five third prizes of Provincial Achievement in Education have been awarded. The special class “Mingde Class of reading Confucian classics”, founded by Research Centre of Chinese Traditional Culture, attracts domestic and overseas students, which has become a cultural “business card” of the university. The school promotes discipline construction and research projects as well, and great achievement was gained. “Ideological and Political Education” has become one of the two disciplines of HUHST that were awarded Provincial Key Construction Discipline in Hunan. In terms of research team construction, more than 20 compositions and 10 edited textbooks were published, and over 200 academic papers were published in Guangming Daily (Theoretical Edition), CSSCI journals and national Chinese core journals. 3 projects won National Social Sciences Fund. 5 projects were approved by Ministry of Education and over 30 were approved by Hunan Provincial Department of Education.
